After relocating from Akron to St. Clairsville in the mid-1940s, Harvey Goodman saw a need for housing in the growing community. He purchased farms, developed subdivisions, and built homes — then in 1957 opened a small real estate brokerage with a single salesperson. What started as one man's vision has grown into a family of companies and a leading provider of real estate and related services across the mid-Ohio Valley.
For nearly seven decades, the Goodman family has led with vision, integrity, and a deep commitment to the communities they serve — building a legacy that now spans three generations.
Founder
After relocating from Akron to St. Clairsville in the mid-1940s with his wife Isabelle and children Reynette and John, Harvey saw a need for housing and set out to meet it — purchasing farms, developing subdivisions, and building homes. In 1957 he opened a small real estate brokerage that would become Harvey Goodman, Realtor®. His first venture, a 90-acre farm on West Main Street, became the Hillview Heights development and helped St. Clairsville grow. Harvey and his family also helped spearhead the St. Clairsville Food Pantry and Memorial Park, a cherished community landmark to this day.
President
In the late 1970s, Harvey passed the responsibility of running the family business to his son John. Under John's vision and leadership, land development, construction, and real estate sales all flourished — establishing Harvey Goodman, Realtor® and its affiliated companies as the premier real estate firm in the region. His developments include Silver Maple Estates, the Oakview Addition, the Valeview Subdivisions, and Plaza West, a popular commercial center offering banking, grocery, dining, medical services, and offices west of St. Clairsville.
Principal
Jay returned to the Ohio Valley in 2012 after a rewarding career in real estate investment and sales in Chicago. A Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), he brings deep expertise in commercial real estate and investment to the family business, helping guide its continued growth across the region.

Emily returned to her roots in 2015 after a 15-year career in real estate management with an Orange County, California–based company. She leads the Property Management Division, bringing certified, professional management to residential and commercial properties throughout the tri-state region and carrying the Goodman standard into its next generation.
